Is “Public Health” and “Nutrition” the same thing?

because I was looking at UCLA’s degrees and they have a lot of things that involve “Public Health”, but I don’t know if that’s the same thing as nutrition since that is what I want to focus my major on…

    No. Public health can include sexualy transmitted diseases,. communicable diseases like flu and Tb, environment, safety and a bunch of other stuff.

    They are very different things, as their names clearly show; but there can be public health applications of nutrition.

    i wouldn’t think that nutrition would be considered public health. did you see anything about diatetics? i think that’s what it’s called. i had a friend who majored in that. public health sounds like nursing and other medical related stuff but it could include a nutritional program as well. check with an advisor.

    Nutrition falls under the more general category of Public Health.

    Public Health is the study of how health issues affect populations, and the development of methods to improve the general well-being of the public at large. Public Health majors study the science and the politics behind Public Health policies. They can investigate communicable diseases, work with the mentally ill, implement nutrition programs, or study policy.

    Nutrition, as a science, is concerned with the ways in which the food we eat affects our physical well-being. Nutritionists are not only our fitness guides, reminding us of how much or how little we should be eating. They’re interested in helping us understand the relationship between our diets and health.
