How do you get financial aid for on-line colleges?

Trish-n-Tn asked:

I am thinking about switching to an online college for my(senior year) BS degree in Public Health Administration. I am an older adult student with alot of responsibilities. So,traditional college hasn’t worked well for me. I am just afraid of losing my finanical aid and loans.I like the fact that I can do the courses on my own free time using my computer.and no driving 30miles one way for classes that last2-3 hours 3 times per week.

I am currently attending the University of Phoenix online. I’m going to obtain my Associates in Business Administration. I’ve taken out financial aid and loans to help pay for my schooling. Feel free to email me with anymore questions that you have.
BTW, With UofP online, you take 2courses for a 9week period. It takes 20months to complete a assocs degree. I love the fact knowing I can do my homework whenever I want and don’t have to worry about being away from my munchkins.

I was a online college student but it didnt work for me. I need a physical school to learn. I do wish you luck though. I also am an adult student and I can tell you its not easy. But make sure that your school is accredited. Some of these online schools arent. Make sure to check the BBB also before applying. That will save you on the heartache later. As far as financial aid goes you can apply here. This will get you going for Federal financial aid. One thing about the online schools is most offer the loans instead of grants. I was able to get a Pell grant but not much the rest was Stafford loans. You can also go to and Also make sure that your credits will transfer first before leaving your current school. You dont want to leave and find out nothing will transfer. The financial aid is the same with online schools as it is for traditional schools so you should have a problem BUT the only thing I see a problem with is transferring your current aid to another school. I think it is possible but not 100%. Good luck with your senior year.. Hope I helped some.

This isn’t what you want to hear but most employer’s aren’t going to take one of those online degree programs seriously. Nothing in life is easy, including college, you only have one more year so just stick it out.

If the school you want to attend doesn’t qualify for federal funding and financial aid–YOU SHOULDN’T BE GOING THERE. That means it’s not accredited.
