What Postgraduate Degree should I do if I want to help the homeless and the poor?
Sapphire asked:
I want to be able to help the poor with food and shelter etc and maybe oneday work for an international NGO. I also like to get involved in Public health promotion. How do I combine these two areas?
yeah thats true, but I dont have the financial backing to just go and get homes for the homeless!, you know what I mean? I need to work for an organization that will hlpe me do such things - and to get a job I need to be qualified.

just go in alley ways in manhattan, you don’t need a degree for that
I think, you do not need to earn any Degree( whether post graduate or even a diploma) to help the homeless.
It all depends on your conscience and your willingness to help

Those degrees that jump to mind initially are;
Master of Social Work
Master of Sociology
Master of Public Health
and maybe
Master of Psychology
To combine areas, you could always “dual degree” (for example, my friend has a dual Master degree in History and Political Science).
Keith M suggestions jump to my mind too. Just to add on to his answer, a couple of other options would be to go to law school and then work at a law firm that represents poor/underprivileged clients. Or go to medical school and work at a free clinic. This isn’t exactly working to help with food or shelter but are areas that are still important and can make a difference in their lives. Of course law and medical school is more commitment than a masters program in other areas, so you will want to decide which direction you want to go in.
