If I go back to school with a bachelor’s degree, will I qualify for financial aid?
Diane asked:
I recently graduated from SDSU and I have a BS degree in Public Health. I got accepted into a respiratory therapy program for Fall 2009 and I wanted to know if I qualify for financial aid (grants, NOT loans) because I’m currently unemployed and would like to go back to school to get another degree. Thanks, any advice is appreciated.
During my years in college I’ve always qualified for financial aid because my parents are deceased and I’m considered independent. I’m also 24 years old right now.

Once you earn a bachelors degree you are no longer able to get the federal Pell grant. Some states will give state grants to grad students for Masters level programs, but I am not sure if that would apply in your situation. Best contact your school, they will be able to tell you if you could still get a state grant. Usually, loans are the majority of anyone’s financial aid package after a bachelor’s degree.
Student loans are meant to help students who are unable to bear their educational expenses. Student loans are different in different countries in the way they are devised, but then the common types of student loans available are the undergraduate loans, college student loans, private student loans and federal family educational loans.
Student loan repayments are not made until the student completes his graduation. This facility helps him to concentrate on his studies and earn some little amount of money while he is studying, but repayment has to start once he finishes his education.
